Get your head out of the clouds

Great week this week.

Monday we just played volleyball and basketball and that was pretty fun! I was then able to go on exchanges with Elder Tauanu’u in Twin Falls and we just grinded as usual, and I am super excited for their area because of their obedience and diligence.

On Wednesday we had an amazing Zone Conference and we were able to study the talk from President Uchtedorf titled “Gift of Grace” from April 2015 General Conference in preparation and I learned so much from that talk, and would STRONGLY encourage that all of you read that talk. In Zone Conference we talked about how we are our brother’s keeper, and related this, the importance of helping our companions be obedient, especially with this new movement of technology. At Zone Conference we received the official go for the entire mission to start using Facebook to proselyte, and so we are using that as a backup for everything we plan in the morning.

On Thursday I studied in Helaman 3 & 4 for personal study and learned as well as was reminded of the spirit ceasing to dwell with those who are unworthy of its companionship. We were able to have an amazing lesson with one of our new investigators and it really went well.

On Friday, I was in my area on exchanges with Elder Durst, and we had some good talks and I was able to learn a lot from him. On Saturday we contacted a lot of people but not many people were home, so we also did some online proselyting and now Elder Royal and I are both teaching and talking to friends that we want to share the gospel with.

Sunday was great and we were able to have Stake Conference and a regional broadcast, in which some of the general authorities talked about the importance of keeping on the Covenant Pathway and then President Nelson concluded and testified of the Book of Mormon and how that is the key to keeping on this covenant Pathway and strengthening us enough so that we can also help others around us to come to that pathway as well.

The biggest thing I learned probably this week was as I was reading in Helaman 5:40-42 which says:

40 And it came to pass that the Lamanites said unto him: What shall we do, that this cloud of darkness may be removed from overshadowing us?

41 And Aminadab said unto them: You must repent, and cry unto the voice, even until ye shall have faith in Christ, who was taught unto you by Alma, and Amulek, and Zeezrom; and when ye shall do this, the cloud of darkness shall be removed from overshadowing you.

42 And it came to pass that they all did begin to cry unto the voice of him who had shaken the earth; yea, they did cry even until the cloud of darkness was dispersed.

And as I was thinking of that, I thought of the nature of a cloud. A cloud is always moving. In verse 40 however, the Lamanites make it seem as though it is stopped over them, but because of the nature of clouds, the only way we can have a cloud overshadow us is if we follow underneath it. Now, take the cloud, which represents sin, and apply it. One of the key things we have to do in the repentance process is forsake and STOP, all we merely have to do is STOP, and the cloud will pass by. As we know, clouds will come and go, but we choose to follow them or not. Then as you see in verse 42, that repentance and crying out to the voice is not a one time event, but rather, we must cry and repent UNTIL the cloud of darkness is dispersed. Easier said than done, I know, but that is why we have the Savior’s help at all times. The Book of Mormon is another source that will help us to not follow the clouds so that they over shadow us. I know that to be true, and stand as a witness of the truthfulness of the strengthening and saving power of the Savior and his words as found in the Book of Mormon, and say this in the name of Jesus Christ, Amen. I hope that y’all have a great week!

Con Amor,

Elder Saunders
