I only have 4 weeks left in Idaho. With that in mind, I have been working super hard, and also I have discovered the answer of How to Use my Time Wisely for the rest of the Mission. The answer is: goals and plans. (see PMG ch.8) We also received some great training about how to set effective and inspired goals.
The things you need to consider when setting a goal are as follow
1 Your history- what is your history related to the thing you want to improve, for example: have you had a trouble reading the Book of Mormon everyday in the past, if so, maybe starting out slow to not overwhelm you would be the best way to start reading the Book of Mormon.
2 Standards of Excellence- what does the Lord, Stake and ward leaders expect of you, think of this as you set your goals.
3 Your resources- for ex: how much time do you typically have in the day, time and availability are a valuable resource we must keep in mind when planning goals.
4 Pray and seek inspiration. Self explanatory…
As we set the goals, we always need to make plans to help us accomplish them. Plans may include but aren’t limited to: who will help accomplish your goal? how can others help you? where are you going to do it? what time of the day? what specifically will you do?
With all of this in mind, we have set a goal each day to contact 16 new people and pass out 3 Copies of the Book of Mormon a day, and we accomplished that Monday, Wednesday, and Sunday and ended up passing out 12 Book of Mormons and talking to 62 new people! It has nothing to do with us, just the goals we set and our determination to accomplish them. We are expecting miracles and have seen many come already because of it. Last night we taught 3 new people and are so excited to see them progress in this amazing gospel!
On the theme of goal setting, our message last night to our dinner was about unity and inviting all unto Christ, and so we set goals with the members to invite 1 person a week to church. We explained to the members that the reason the Lord wants them to do this is that there is two ways to increase results: we can either put more time in the same thing we are doing, or we can change the way we are doing something. We explained that if we have 1 or 2 coming to church, out of approximately 15 invatations to church each week, then imagine if each member in the ward was to invite one person. That would be 140-180 invatations a week! Imagine how many more would come and join us in our services! With that in mind, the members were super excited and we will follow up with them this Saturday night at 8.
With that, I want to invite each of you to do the same, invite at least one person to church this week that usually doesn’t come or maybe has never came, I promise as you make that effort, your spiritual power and receptivity to the Holy Ghost will increase.
A cool miracle this week: A lady we had on date last year returned to Mexico last year and we thought we would never see her again, come to find that she has moved back and so we began to teach her and she accepted a Book of Mormon and was super excited to start meeting with us again, and promised us she would come to church this next week! I know there is miracles everyday. I know this is the Gospel of Jesus Christ. I know who I am representing, and hold that close to my heart. Have a wonderful week!
