We had a good week this week. On Monday we played Ultimate Frisbee and that was way fun (see pictures). It is always an interesting balance the week leading up to transfer calls. You try and stay as focused as possible but its hard not to have your mind wonder about what might happen. I am just thankful the Lord is the one who oversees this important work and I know I am and will be where I am supposed to be.
We were able to have the Gallegos come to church for all three hours and we think that they enjoyed it and they are back on the train to baptism and we are really excited for them! We hope that we can resolve any doubts and teach them the rest of what they need to be ready for baptism.
This week we were able to also have the Barrett’s come to church and we had a great lesson about the importance of the sacrament.
I invite you to read the talk from Dallin H. Oaks Sacrament Meeting and the Sacrament. (https://www.lds.org/general-conference/2008/10/sacrament-meeting-and-the-sacrament?lang=eng). There is such great spiritual power that comes from being able to worthily take the sacrament each week. I have seen this in my life many times.
Thank you for all the love, prayers, and support. I testify of the sacrament and the importance of the sacrament. I know that he suffered on the cross and in Gethsemane for me, and for that reason I thirst after righteousness so he doesn’t have to suffer more than he needs to. I know that Jesus Christ is my friend and that we have a loving Heavenly Father. In the name of Jesus Christ, Amen.
This week was great and really have felt the spirit testify and tell me what I need to work on to become a better missionary. We found two New Investigators and one of them is named Sofia and she is baptist and absolutely loves talking about God and Jesus Christ and gets really emotional when she does so, but the great thing is that she has said that she doesn’t have faith in the religion, but faith in God and Jesus Christ, which is awesome!
We taught the Barrett’s a great lesson. They asked a lot of questions and we responded to the questions by saying “Now the real question you should be asking is if Joseph Smith is a true prophet of God, as you come to know that and read the Book of Mormon to gain that knowledge, you will know that all of the teachings of Joseph Smith and the current prophets are the word of God.” The spirit was super strong.
I am absolutely loving the area and the people. My companion is amazing and we have really found what works and what makes us in harmony and that is such a blessing! We are hoping to set up a baptismal date for one of our investigators Lakeisha so please pray the spirit can touch her heart.
I know that the key to gain the spirit is simply, to obey ALL of God’s commandments. I testify that those who are baptized, as they live worthily of it, will have the spirit to guide them to follow the will of the Lord, which is the best path we can follow. I know that Jesus Christ established his gospel on the earth through the prophets and apostles and that through Joseph Smith, the gospel has been restored in its entirety. Thank you for all the love and support.
Received these on Father’s Day:)
This week has been great! We are seeing many blessings from being obedient and striving to let the spirit guide our efforts.
On Monday we went bowling and went to DI (Deseret Industries) and got some stuff. I had exchanges with Elder Yarber in Emerson and it was great! We did a lot of service, Elder Yarber is a great missionary.
On Wednesday we did service for Bonnie West and we talked about her spirituality level. She said she is tired of giving up the gospel for her husband so now she is going to start receiving again, in other words, she wants to start coming back. We met with a Less Active named Brent Nicholas and this guy is awesome and super strong, in fact, he tore a license plate into 11 pieces and yeah he is awesome. He is really softening up to the gospel so that is great! Wednesday night we taught the Jimenez family about the Atonement of Jesus Christ and man they believed every thing and were so happy to hear how they can improve their life through the Atonement.
On Thursday we went out with Brother Kobayashi and taught Sister Flint, a less active, about the Atonement using Alma 7:11-13 and man she has a great goal to go to the temple but she just needs her husband to want to do the same.
On Friday we shared a spiritual message with Clint Robbins and man he is super awesome and really has a desire to change! We visited with the Rodriguez Family as they are getting ready to go to the temple and are going to start their temple classes here really soon and they are so strong in the church. We have not been able to contact the Gallego Family because his mom is in town but we will get in contact this week.
We found 3 New Investigators this week. The first one is William and he has really had a spiritual awakening and is ready to hear the gospel. The next one is Sister Jimenez and that is the one we taught on Wednesday, and then you have Brother Casarez who Elder Castellano and Elder Wade taught while I was on exchanges.
Any who, that is pretty much it for this last week. I absolutely love you guys and thank you for all of the support and prayers! I know that this church is true and am so grateful to have the gospel in my life. Have a great week!
Amber received the following message on Facebook this past week, we feel so blessed from Elder Saunders service.
We finally set a baptismal date with the Gallegos for July 1st but we think that they are going to want to do it earlier so that should be good! We found this guy named William and he has had a really hard life and knows that the Lord saved him for a reason so we asked him if he wanted to know that reason and he said of course so we set a appointment with him. We also met this family named the Gomez Family and they are amazingly nice and there is a certain type of spirit about them so we are going to teach them this week and that should be great as well! We had back to back exchanges this week and I really learned a lot about myself and the other missionaries I am serving around. We met some other cool people this week so I guess we will see how it goes and who is interested.
On Thursday, we had our mission tour and Elder Randall K. Bennett attended and we had a really amazing time. We learned about the true importance of our calling, and how to talk to everyone that we see, and also the effective way of street contacting. We have already implemented a lot of the things we have learned and can’t wait to see what else we can apply into our daily mission life.
Thank you for all the prayers, love, support, and examples that you have shown me. I know that the Book of Mormon is true and that prayer is essential to getting to know your Heavenly Father.
Wow I have really had another great week! On Tuesday we committed Roy Gomez to baptism and he will be baptized April 8th, so pretty soon👍🏼. We just went over the qualifications and I was pretty blunt and just said who cares about somebody if you are trying to follow Jesus and you know the Gospel is true and he said that that is exactly what he needed to hear and so he will be baptized April 8th!
I lost my CTR ring for a couple days and it was brand new and I was really sad and so I knelt down and prayed and then felt the impression to read my scriptures and I did and then when I got up to go help Elder LeFevre with something I felt a hard thing hit me in the back, and I saw my ring land on the bed!!! I immediately knelt down and gave a prayer of thanks for the Lord comforting me by me finding my ring. Funny enough yesterday’s subject was on prayer and so I had an opportunity to share that experience and it felt so awesome to do so 🙏👍🏼.
We met with an awesome kid named Austin Montoya and taught him about prophets and prayer and then used his interests (being an EMT) to show that in a way as missionaries we are saving people lives as well. We talked about the comfort that comes from having the knowledge of the Plan of Salvation and he wanted to learn a lot more about it and is super interested which is awesome! Roy Gomez and his little brother Danny came to church, along with Luis and Marycruz in Raft River. Luis is really progressing and we hope that here soon we will be able to extend a baptismal date but I don’t know for sure right now.
We had a Zone Conference this Wednesday and basically in the middle of Zone Conference President stood up and said “I feel impressed that we should go to Shashona Falls to admire one of the great creations from the hands of our Lord Jesus Christ”, so we rounded up and went there and took a bunch of pictures and it was absolutely beautiful!!! I forgot my camera at home so I will bring it next week so I can send all the gorgeous pictures I took. At zone Conference we talked about the new Easter Initiative that is coming out and this message will truly bring peace to those that stand in need of comfort.
I testify that Jesus Christ is our Savior and Redeemer. I know that God is there and hears even the simplest prayers, as long as they are sincere. I testify that it requires action to have your prayers answered. Thanks so much for all of your prayers and support!
How crazy, we were at one of their members house, Cheryl Webb Darrington and they realized the connection to my Aunt Pam Darrington. This picture popped up on Facebook. Oh the blessings of missionary service.
Wow what a great week this week!
Monday we taught Roy and man he wants to be baptized and be sealed in the temple so bad but Danya is not the same way. We really need to be able to teach her and have her parents soften their hearts towards the gospel.
On Tuesday we had Preparation Day and man we had so much fun playing volleyball! We are practicing for a mission wide volleyball tournament and it is going to be lit!
Wednesday, we were strongly impressed to stop at this random house on the road and to our surprise their son had just been diagnosed with MS that day and he is only 25 years old. The spirit was so strong as we shared Ether 12:27 that God can make weak things become strong through his grace and mercy, we just need to be humble enough and try our hardest. I testify that the spirit lead us to that house that day, And they are less actives and ended up coming to church and then later we found out that the husband isn’t LDS but he is so kind so we will have a new investigator!
On Thursday we taught Gamma at the seminary building with Bro. Dixon and Gamma wanted us to answer the question: How did God become God? We prayed and pondered and then came upon a couple scriptures such as John 14(i think) which says that if you know me you know my father (Jesus talking) so with that inspiration we answered that we don’t know how God became God, but because if we know Jesus we know God, we explained how Jesus became the Savior and a God, and that can be found in Philippians 2. We thought he might be disappointed but the spirit was present and thus he answered, “That is right, that is true”! HOW AWESOME IS THAT! I testify of the Holy Ghost and how important it is.
We taught a family who has some Word of Wisdom problems and their son Michael, just got out of jail last week. Their names are Kurt and Terry Smith and Michael. We taught them on Sunday night and we found out that Terry finally has gotten Sundays off and she knew that was a sign to start going to church again. We taught Michael that their is no sin outside of the reach of our Savior and read from Alma 7:11-13 and man he was crying and I was tearing up too. Well they ended up coming to church yesterday drenched in the smell of cigarettes, and I have never smelt something more beautiful. They met with Bishop and are making a lot of changes in their lives.
Sunday I learned about trials and such. As we pray for God to take away trials, or relieve them, we are basically asking us to stop loving us. Rather instead of asking “why” or “please take this trial away” we should ask “what will you have us do” or “give us strength to endure this trial so we can be stronger”. That really touched my heart and really emphasized the importance of God and how much love he has for each of us. Thanks for todo el apoyo!
The snow has melted and now it is starting to rain and so the flooding is getting pretty bad again…
Loosing our car has been a blessing in disguise because we haven’t had to use any of our miles for this month yet. haha. It is crazy how when you increase your size of your area the Lord really shows who is ready and who is not.
We have a child, street preacher named Gamma who is so awesome and has so many questions and we are going to set a baptism date for March 4! We read from Alma 32 with him and he knows that it was the spirit saying that things are good.
We were able to set a baptism date for a kid named Dusty Booth but it isn’t until June 12th haha. We taught some investigators in Malta named Jose y Katya and they are a pretty cool family. We testified of the blessings that come as we read in the scriptures. We were able to teach Sandra Duarte and she has been texting us what she has been reading and she is definitely progressing.
We had Jesus Chewy come to church and will be meeting with him on Tuesday. We have a less active family who relayed that they want to be sealed in the temple so we are working with them and they just need to start coming to church a little bit more consistently. We had the opportunity to teach Delfino and Jorlen as well and they have stopped progressing but I think that they will start reading again.
We had a dinner with a less active family who invited some of our investigators and then we had a great lesson about the Sabbath day and the blessings that come as we keep that day holy.
I am in Alma 7 right now for my BoM reading and I absolutely love Alma 5 testifying of the purpose and role of Christ in each of our lives. I love how awesome the BoM is!!! I testify of its strength and converting power. Thanks for all the support and prayers.
